Regina Viarum Mencía Red Wine

Regina Viarum Mencía is a red wine produced in the Ribeira Sacra region of Galicia, Spain. The brand's name, which translates from Latin as "the queen of the routes," pays homage to the ancient Roman military road, the Via Appia, reflecting the winemaking history of the area that dates back over two thousand years. The wine is made from the Mencía grape variety, which is the signature red grape of the region.

The winery is located in the Amandi subzone, specifically in Doade, Sober. It is famous for "Viticultura Heroica" (Heroic Viticulture), a term used to describe the challenging cultivation of vineyards on steep terraced slopes overlooking the River Sil, often with gradients reaching 60 degrees. Since 2001, the winery has been owned and operated by the Gómez Araujo family under their group, HGA Bodegas y Viñedos de Altura, which has modernised the estate while maintaining traditional practices.
