Backhouse Daffodils

Backhouse Daffodils represent a historic linage of Narcissus cultivars bred by the Backhouse family in the United Kingdom, most famously Sarah Elizabeth Backhouse and William Backhouse. The family is credited with revolutionizing daffodil breeding in the 19th and early 20th centuries, including the development of the world's first 'pink' daffodil, known as Narcissus 'Mrs. R.O. Backhouse'.

Today, the brand legacy is maintained primarily through the Backhouse Rossie Estate in Fife, Scotland, which holds the National Collection of Backhouse Daffodils. While they are a historic cultivar group rather than a mass-manufactured consumer good, they are marketed and sold as specialty bulbs and plants by the estate and various high-end horticultural distributors. Ownership remains tied to the descendants of the original breeding family through the development of the Heritage Exhibition & Education Centre.
