Cookworks is a prominent value-oriented brand specializing in small kitchen electricals and cookware. Originally developed as an in-house brand for the British retailer Argos, its history is closely tied to the evolution of the Home Retail Group. The brand was established to provide affordable essentials like microwaves, kettles, toasters, and air fryers to the UK market.
In 2016, following the acquisition of Home Retail Group by the supermarket giant J Sainsbury plc, Cookworks became part of the Sainsbury's brand portfolio. Today, it serves as a key private label for both Argos and Sainsbury's, positioned to offer functional, entry-level appliances. While founded and managed in the United Kingdom, production is largely outsourced to manufacturing hubs in East Asia, particularly China, to maintain competitive pricing. Despite being a budget brand, it remains a household name in Britain due to its widespread availability through the Sainsbury's retail network.
