King Peppermint is an iconic Dutch confectionery brand with a heritage dating back to 1902. Initially marketed by the Tonnema company based in Sneek, Netherlands, the name "KING" was officially adopted in 1922 as an acronym for 'Kwaliteit In Niets Geëvenaard' (Quality In Nothing Equaled). For decades, the brand was famous for featuring the image of pharmacist Paul François van Hamel Roos on its packaging to emphasize the product's medicinal quality and purity.
Today, King is a staple in the Dutch candy market, known primarily for its distinctive hard peppermint rolls. While it originated as a family-led venture by the De Vries family, the brand has transitioned through various corporate owners over the years. Since 2012, it has been part of the international portfolio of Cloetta, a leading European confectionery company. The product continues to be manufactured in the Netherlands, maintaining its traditional recipe and cultural status.
