Domino Sugar is one of the most iconic food brands in the United States, with a history spanning over a century. The brand name was officially adopted in 1901 by the American Sugar Refining Company, which chose the name because the original sugar cubes resembled game tiles. For decades, it was defined by its massive refinery in Brooklyn, New York, though modern production has shifted to other major facilities.

Today, the brand is owned by ASR Group (American Sugar Refining, Inc.), which is the world’s largest cane sugar refining company. ASR Group is a joint venture between Florida Crystals Corporation and the Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida. The company operates major refineries in Baltimore, Maryland; Yonkers, New York; and Chalmette, Louisiana. While the refining and packaging occur primarily in the U.S., the raw sugarcane is sourced from a combination of domestic farms in Florida, Louisiana, and Texas, as well as several international suppliers through the U.S. quota program.
