Darbo is a prestigious family-owned brand with deep roots in Austrian culinary history. Founded in 1879 by Rudolf Darbo in Gorizia (then part of Austria), the company initially started as a fruit steam distillery. Following the impact of World War I, the family moved their operations to Stans in Tyrol, Austria, where they expanded into jam production and honey bottling.

The 'Naturrein' (Naturally Pure) line was a significant innovation introduced to offer high-quality fruit spreads made without artificial preservatives or colorings, relying on traditional recipes and gentle heating processes to preserve fruit aromas. Despite a period where the Swiss Hero Group held a minority stake, the Darbo family successfully repurchased these shares in 2009. Today, the company remains firmly in family hands, managed by the fifth generation of the Darbo family from its headquarters and production facilities in Tyrol.
