Freixenet Carta Nevada sparkling wine

Freixenet Carta Nevada is one of the most iconic sparkling wines from the Penedès region of Catalonia, Spain. Originally launched in 1941, it became a global flagship for the brand, characterized by its distinctive frosted white bottle and approachable style that bridges the gap between dry and sweet sparkling wines. The product is primarily manufactured at the historical Cavas Freixenet winery in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, where it has been produced for over eight decades using the traditional method (Cava).

The brand's history dates back to the union of two winemaking families in the late 19th century—the Ferrers and the Salas—leading to the official launch of the Freixenet brand in 1914. For most of its history, it remained a fiercely independent family-run operation. However, a major turning point occurred in 2018 when the German sparkling wine giant Henkell & Co. acquired a majority stake.

Starting from March 2026, Freixenet transitioned to 100% German ownership after the founding Ferrer and Bonet families sold their remaining shares to the Henkell Freixenet group. This group is ultimately owned by the Oetker family through the holding company Geschwister Oetker Beteiligungen KG, based in Bielefeld, Germany. Despite the German ownership, the brand maintains its Spanish identity and Mediterranean heritage.
