Negroni cocktail

The Negroni is an iconic Italian cocktail traditionally consisting of equal parts gin, sweet red vermouth, and Campari, garnished with an orange slice. While it is a standard drink prepared worldwide, its heart and soul are often tied to the Italian brand Campari, which is the only brand name explicitly mentioned in the official International Bartenders Association (IBA) recipe. Because the cocktail relies on separate components like gin and vermouth produced by diverse manufacturers globally, it is designated as made in 'Multiple countries.'

Historically, the drink is believed to have originated in 1919 at Caffè Casoni in Florence, Italy. The story goes that Count Camillo Negroni asked his bartender to strengthen his usual Americano by replacing the soda water with gin and using an orange garnish instead of lemon. The drink gained immense popularity and was eventually commercialized by the Negroni family, who founded a distillery to produce a ready-made version. Today, while anyone can make a Negroni, the Campari Group remains the commercial steward of the cocktail's identity, especially through promotional events like 'Negroni Week.'
