Licher Export is a traditional German lager produced by the Licher Privatbrauerei Jhring-Melchior, located in Lich, Hesse. The brand’s history dates back to 1854 when Johann Heinrich Jhring founded the J.H. Jhring Brewery. In 1858, Christoph Jakob Melchior established the Gambrinus Brewery in nearby Butzbach. After years of local competition and a brief wartime union, the two family-owned breweries formally merged in 1923 to form the brewery known today.

Following a period of expansion where it became the market leader in the Hesse region, the brewery underwent several ownership changes in the modern era. In 1999, it was acquired by the Holsten Group, which was subsequently bought by the Carlsberg Group in early 2004. Shortly thereafter, in the same year, the Bitburger Braugruppe acquired Licher from Carlsberg. As of 2026, the brand remains a core part of the Bitburger portfolio, maintaining its regional identity and its iconic kingfisher logo, which was introduced in 1995 to symbolize purity and nature.
