Roodeberg is one of South Africa's most iconic wine brands, with a history dating back to 1949. It was originally created by Dr. Charles Niehaus, a pioneering wine scientist at KWV (Ko-operatieve Wijnbouwers Vereniging van Zuid-Afrika). For much of its early history, Roodeberg was almost exclusively an export product, gaining legendary status among international consumers before becoming widely available in its home country in 2004.

The wine is produced in the Paarl wine region of the Western Cape. While it was founded as a cooperative, the manufacturing and brand ownership shifted as the industry modernized. Today, Roodeberg remains a flagship brand of KWV, which is owned by the London-based investment firm Vasari Global. The brand is celebrated for its classic red blends, typically featuring varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Merlot, matured in French oak to maintain its consistent and approachable style.
