Skol is a prominent international beer brand originally developed in 1959 by Ind Coope breweries in Scotland. Despite its European origins and Scandinavian-inspired name (derived from the toast 'skål'), it has become one of the most culturally significant and best-selling beer brands in Brazil. In the mid-1960s, Skol International was formed as a consortium between breweries in the UK, Canada, Sweden, and Belgium to license and market the brand globally.
Today, Skol's ownership is split by region. In South America, and specifically Brazil, the brand is owned and manufactured by Ambev, a subsidiary of the global beverage giant Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev). In Africa, the rights are held by the Belgian company Unibra, while Carlsberg Group manages the brand in the rest of the world. In Brazil, it is famous for its long-standing marketing slogan 'A cerveja que desce redondo' (the beer that goes down round/smooth) and is manufactured in numerous regional breweries across the country to meet massive local demand.
