Its origins can be traced back to the state-owned 'Oficiul Farmaceutic Iasi', established in 1952. Following the fall of the communist regime, the company was privatized and evolved through a series of significant mergers involving regional pharmaceutical entities like Iassy Farm, Aesculap, and Medica. This consolidation created an integrated business model that spans production, distribution, and a massive retail network of pharmacies.

The brand is a major manufacturer of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and dietary supplements in Romania. Its production facilities, including those operated through subsidiaries like Eurofarmaco and Aesculap, are primarily located in Romania, serving both the domestic and international markets in Eastern Europe.

Ownership of the brand is held by Ropharma SA, which is publicly listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB: RPH). The company's strategic direction and ultimate control are associated with Romanian businessman and pharmacist Mihai Miron, who consolidated various pharmaceutical assets to form the modern Ropharma group. Miron, also known for founding Europharm (later sold to GSK), continues to lead the company as of 2026 through various investment vehicles, maintaining its status as one of the largest Romanian-capital players in the healthcare sector.
