Lid in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau (Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau)

The decoration visible in the image is the 'Lid in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau' (Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau). This is a Dutch royal decoration awarded to individuals who have performed acts of special merit for society. Established in 1892, it is one of the most recognized civil honors in the Netherlands and is typically conferred during the annual 'lintjesregen' (ribbon shower) around the time of King's Day.

The insignia consists of a silver-bordered white and blue enameled cross suspended from a royal orange ribbon with white and blue border stripes. These decorations are official state honors produced by the Royal Dutch Mint (Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt) on behalf of the Chancellor of the Dutch Orders.

Historically, the order was founded by Queen Regent Emma to recognize distinguished civil or military service. Since 1996, many of the old honorary medals were merged into this 'Member' rank, making it the most frequently awarded level of the order, specifically honoring volunteers and those with significant local or regional contributions. Ownership of the order remains with the State of the Netherlands, and the honors are technically 'on loan' to the recipient.
