Ipiranga is one of Brazil's most iconic and historic energy brands, synonymous with fuel distribution and automotive services across the country. Founded in 1937 in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, it originated from the first Brazilian petroleum refinery. Over the decades, it expanded from a local refiner into a massive national network of service stations, becoming a central part of the Brazilian landscape. The brand is famous for its long-running 'Ask at Ipiranga' (Pergunta lá no Ipiranga) marketing campaign, which positioned its gas stations as versatile hubs offering everything from fuel to convenience through its 'am/pm' stores.
In 2007, the Ipiranga Group was acquired in a landmark multi-party deal by Ultrapar, Petrobras, and Braskem. Following this restructuring, Ultrapar (Ultra Group) became the primary owner and operator of the Ipiranga brand and its retail distribution network in the South and Southeast regions, eventually consolidating its position as one of the largest private distributors in Brazil. As of 2026, Ipiranga continues to operate as a core subsidiary of Ultrapar. The company's products, including gasoline, ethanol, and high-performance lubricants, are primarily refined and produced within Brazil to supply its network of over 6,000 service stations.
