Clipper is a brand name famously shared by two distinct product categories: refillable lighters and Fairtrade tea. The Clipper lighter brand was established in 1959 by the Spanish company Flamagas S.A. in Barcelona. It is world-renowned for its iconic cylindrical shape, designed by Enric Sardà in 1970, and for being the first refillable plastic lighter on the market. Production of these lighters primarily takes place in Barcelona, Spain, though the company also operates manufacturing facilities in Chennai, India, and Shanghai, China, to meet global demand.
Clipper Teas, on the other hand, is a British brand founded in 1984 by Mike and Lorraine Brehme in Dorset, England. It gained fame for being one of the UK's first Fairtrade-certified tea companies. Today, it is owned by the French food company Ecotone (formerly Royal Wessanen). The tea is blended and packaged at its large manufacturing facility in Beaminster, Dorset, while the raw tea leaves are sourced from ethical estates in countries like India, Kenya, and Sri Lanka.
