Auterion Skynode is a pivotal piece of hardware in the modern autonomous systems landscape, serving as an all-in-one flight controller, mission computer, and connectivity hub. The product is designed to run AuterionOS, a commercial distribution of the open-source PX4 autopilot software, facilitating seamless communication between drones and ground control stations while enabling advanced AI and computer vision capabilities.
The brand's journey began in 2017 when it was founded in Zurich, Switzerland, by Dr. Lorenz Meier—the creator of the PX4 autopilot—and Kevin Sartori. Since its inception, Auterion has transitioned from a software specialist to a hardware-software integrator with a significant focus on the defense and enterprise sectors. Today, while maintaining strong roots in Switzerland for engineering, the company is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, and operates a major development and manufacturing hub in Munich, Germany. Manufacturing of Skynode components is distributed across these regions, particularly within the US and Germany, to meet stringent National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and European security standards.
