Jeep is a quintessential American automotive brand with a heritage deeply rooted in the military history of the United States. Originally developed by Willys-Overland and Ford to serve as a light reconnaissance vehicle for the U.S. Army during World War II, the 'Jeep' became a global symbol of ruggedness and off-road capability. Following the war, Willys-Overland transitioned the vehicle into civilian use with the CJ (Civilian Jeep) series, effectively creating the SUV segment. Over the decades, ownership of the brand shifted through various hands, including American Motors Corporation (AMC) and Chrysler, before eventually becoming part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).
As of 2026, Jeep is a primary brand under Stellantis N.V., a Dutch-domiciled multinational automotive conglomerate formed from the 2021 merger of FCA and France's PSA Group. While the brand's spiritual and operational heart remains at the Toledo Assembly Plant in Ohio, its manufacturing footprint is now truly global. Jeep vehicles are produced in several countries to serve regional markets, including the United States (Michigan and Ohio), Italy (Melfi), Mexico (Toluca), Brazil (Goiana and Porto Real), and Poland (Tychy). The brand continues to evolve by integrating electrified powertrains across its lineup, such as the 4xe plug-in hybrids and the fully electric Wagoneer S and Recon models.
