Cold Power is a prominent laundry detergent brand in Australia and New Zealand, widely recognized for its specialized formula designed to deliver effective cleaning results in cold water. This focus on cold-water washing is not only marketed as being gentler on fabrics but also emphasizes energy efficiency, allowing consumers to reduce their environmental footprint and household utility costs.
Originally developed by the American multinational Colgate-Palmolive in the 1960s, the brand was initially sold in the United States and Canada (where it is known as Arctic Power). However, while it was eventually discontinued in the US market, it maintained a strong presence in the Oceania region. In 2015, Colgate-Palmolive sold its entire laundry detergent portfolio in Australia and New Zealand, including Cold Power, Dynamo, and Fab, to the German consumer goods giant Henkel for approximately €220 million.
Today, Cold Power is managed by Henkel's Consumer Brands division. Despite its international ownership, the product remains deeply rooted in the local market, with manufacturing typically taking place within Australia to supply the region. The brand continues to innovate, offering various formats such as liquid, powder, and dual-capsules that are compatible with both front and top-loading washing machines.
