Biona Organic is a leading British organic food brand established in 1992 by Noel McDonald and Donata Berger. The brand's roots trace back to the 1970s when Noel lived in a self-sufficient commune in Ireland, eventually moving to London to open Windmill Wholefoods, one of the UK’s first organic shops. Biona was officially launched to provide high-quality, ethically sourced organic products that were missing from the market at the time, starting with granola hand-packaged at the founders' kitchen table.

Today, Biona is managed by its parent company, Windmill Organics Ltd, which remains an independent family-run business led by the original founders and their daughters. The brand has expanded to offer over 500 products across 20 categories, including pantry staples, juices, and snacks. While headquartered in the United Kingdom, manufacturing occurs across a global network of specialized organic producers. For instance, many of its glass-jarred goods and preserves are produced by its subsidiary, Machandel, in the Netherlands, while other items like coconut products or tomatoes are sourced and packaged in regions like Sri Lanka and Italy to maintain 100% traceability and quality.
