Hu Kitchen (now commonly known as Hu Products) began as a high-end paleo-inspired restaurant in New York City in 2012. Founded by family members Jordan Brown, Jessica Karp, and Jason Karp, the brand was built on the 'Get Back to Human' philosophy, which emphasizes simple, minimally processed ingredients. What started as house-made chocolate for their restaurant kitchen quickly became a cult favorite, leading the founders to pivot toward a full-scale consumer packaged goods (CPG) brand.
Today, the brand's manufacturing is decentralized, with products like their signature organic chocolate being produced at facilities that specialize in high-quality, vegan, and paleo-compliant standards. While the brand remains deeply rooted in the United States, its broad distribution through major retailers and international growth indicates a supply chain that leverages various specialized manufacturing partners.
In early 2021, Hu was fully acquired by Mondelēz International after an initial minority investment. Under the ownership of this global snacking giant, Hu continues to operate as a separate business unit to maintain its authentic entrepreneurial spirit while benefiting from Mondelēz's global logistics and distribution infrastructure.
