Formex Essence Chronometer

Formex is a Swiss independent watchmaker celebrated for blending technical innovation with refined craftsmanship. The Essence Chronometer, featured in the image, is one of the brand's flagship models, known for its horizontally CNC-machined dial and the patented Case Suspension System. This unique engineering feature, inspired by the suspension units in high-performance racing cars, allows the watch head to move within its outer case to absorb shocks and provide a more comfortable fit on the wrist.

All Formex timepieces are designed, developed, and assembled in-house at their headquarters in Biel/Bienne, a historic center of Swiss watchmaking. The brand's vertical integration is enhanced by its close relationship with sister companies within the Granito family group, specifically Dexel (specializing in precision bracelets and clasps) and Cadranor (expert dial manufacturing). This allows Formex to maintain high production standards and offer features—such as COSC-certified accuracy and tool-less micro-adjustment systems—at a price point often lower than larger luxury competitors.

Originally founded in 1999 by brothers Hans-Peter and Ferdinand Grädel, the brand underwent a significant revitalization in 2016 under the leadership of Raphael Granito. At this time, Formex shifted to a direct-to-consumer model and streamlined its design language toward a more modern and versatile aesthetic. As of 2026, Formex remains a fiercely independent, family-owned manufacture, continuing to grow its global presence while adhering to the strict "Swiss Made" regulations.
