Arelion global connectivity services

Arelion is a leading global provider of telecommunication services, specializing in IP connectivity and infrastructure. Originally established in 1993 as Telia Carrier, a division of the Swedish telecommunications giant Telia Company (formerly TeliaSonera), the brand built the world's number one ranked Internet backbone, known technically as AS1299.

In 2021, the company was divested by Telia and acquired by Polhem Infra, an investment firm owned by several of Sweden's largest national pension funds. Following this acquisition, the company rebranded as Arelion in early 2022. While headquartered in Solna, Sweden, Arelion operates a massive physical fiber-optic network spanning over 77,000 kilometers across Europe, North America, and Asia. Its 'manufacturing' or service delivery is global in nature, utilizing thousands of points of presence (PoPs) across more than 125 countries to power over 65% of all Internet routes.
