Hertekamp is a traditional Belgian spirit known as Jenever (or Genever), a juniper-flavored liquor that serves as the historical predecessor to modern gin. The brand's heritage dates back to 1884 when Pieter Bruggeman founded his wine and liquor shop, De Noordpool, in Ghent, Belgium. Over the decades, the family business evolved into Bruggeman Distillery, one of the most prominent producers of Belgian spirits.

Today, Hertekamp is manufactured at the Bruggeman facilities in Ghent. As a recipient of the 'O’de Flander' quality label, the production is strictly regulated to ensure it occurs within East Flanders, maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and a minimum alcohol content. In 2009, Bruggeman Distillery was acquired by the French spirits group La Martiniquaise, which now oversees the brand's global distribution while preserving its authentic Belgian identity and traditional 100% natural recipe.
