Dithmarscher Maibock beer

Dithmarscher Maibock is a seasonal specialty beer produced by the Dithmarscher Privatbrauerei. The history of brewing at the site in Marne, Schleswig-Holstein, dates back to 1775. The brewery itself was officially founded in 1884 by Christian Hintz.

The brand is deeply rooted in the North German coast, emphasizing its independence and local heritage. It is known for its traditional brewing methods and the use of 'Beugelbuddelbeer' (swing-top/flip-top bottles), which were famously reintroduced in 1983. The Maibock is a bottom-fermented strong beer (Starkbier) typically released in the spring to celebrate the season, characterized by a higher alcohol content and a malty, spicy flavor profile.

Today, the brewery remains an independent family-owned business, operated by the fifth generation of the Hintz family. It is member of 'Die Freien Brauer' (The Free Brewers), a consortium of private, independent breweries dedicated to preserving traditional brewing culture against large corporate conglomerates.
