Corona is an iconic Mexican brand of beer that has become one of the most recognized lifestyle beverages globally. Originally introduced in 1925 by Cervecería Modelo in Mexico City, it is famous for its crisp flavor profile and the ritual of serving it with a wedge of lime. Historically, all Corona was brewed exclusively in Mexico; however, to meet surging global demand and reduce environmental impact through local logistics, production has expanded to several other countries under the supervision of the brand's owners.
Today, the manufacturing location varies depending on the specific market where the beer is sold. While high volumes are still produced in massive Mexican breweries like those in Zacatecas and Nava, the beer is also brewed under license or at regional facilities in countries including Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, China, Brazil, and Colombia. This multi-country production strategy ensures that consumers around the world receive fresh product while maintaining the brand's strict quality standards.
The global ownership of Corona is uniquely divided due to regulatory anti-trust rulings. Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), the world's largest brewing conglomerate, owns the brand and handles production and distribution for the entire world except for the United States. In the U.S. market, the brand is owned and distributed by Constellation Brands, which holds the exclusive perpetual rights following a 2013 settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice.
