Venco is an iconic Dutch licorice brand with a history dating back to 1878, when it was founded in Amsterdam by Gerrit van Voornveld. Originally operating under the name Van Voornveld & Co., the brand gained significant popularity during the influenza epidemic of 1891, as its licorice was then perceived as a medicinal remedy for coughs and throat irritation.

Over the decades, the brand underwent several ownership changes, becoming part of the Red Band group in 1965 and eventually joining the United Drop Factories (VDF). Since 2012, Venco has been owned by Cloetta, a prominent Swedish-Dutch confectionery company. While the corporate headquarters are in Stockholm, Sweden, the production of Venco remains deeply rooted in the Netherlands, primarily manufactured at the Cloetta facilities in Roosendaal to maintain its authentic Dutch character.
