Ringnes is Norway's largest brewery and a cornerstone of the country's industrial history. Founded in 1876 by brothers Amund and Ellef Ringnes along with Axel Heiberg, the brand began brewing in Oslo in 1877. The company's legacy is deeply tied to Norwegian national identity, evidenced by its sponsorship of famous polar expeditions led by Fridtjof Nansen and Otto Sverdrup; notably, three islands in the High Canadian Arctic were named after the founders.

While the brand was family-owned for a century, it underwent a series of mergers starting in 1978, eventually joining Nora Industrier and later the Orkla Group. In 2004, the Danish multinational Carlsberg Group acquired full ownership of Ringnes. Today, Ringnes operates several production facilities across Norway, including the main brewery at Gjelleråsen. Beyond its flagship pilsner and local beer brands like Frydenlund and Dahls, Ringnes serves as the primary bottler and distributor for major international brands such as Pepsi, 7 Up, and Mountain Dew in the Norwegian market.
