Litoral Cocido Madrileño

Litoral is a historic Spanish culinary brand, originally founded in 1942 in Gijón, Asturias, by the Liñero family. Initially established as a fish cannery (which explains the name 'Litoral', meaning coastal), the company shifted its focus in the 1950s toward traditional Spanish inland dishes. Its most famous product, Fabada Asturiana, was launched in 1950, followed by Cocido Madrileño and other regional specialties in the 1960s.

The brand has seen various owners over the decades. In 1976, it was acquired by the American company Carnation, which in turn was bought by Nestlé in 1985. Since then, Litoral has been a cornerstone of Nestlé’s Spanish food portfolio. Today, the products are still primarily manufactured at the long-standing factory in Gijón, Asturias, where the company even produces its own traditional meats and sausages (embutidos) to ensure authenticity and quality.

Litoral is widely recognized in Spain for its marketing campaigns featuring the 'Abuela Litoral' (Litoral Grandmother) character, emphasizing the 100% natural ingredients and slow-cooked tradition that emulates home-style Spanish cooking.
