The brand's history dates back to 1830 in Kiel, but its Danish identity was solidified in 1858 when Wilhelm Bähncke moved the company to Copenhagen and established Denmark's first mustard factory. Over the decades, Bähncke became a household name with its famous slogan, "Intet bord uden Bähncke" (No table without Bähncke).

Today, the brand is owned by the Norwegian conglomerate Orkla ASA, through its local subsidiary Orkla Foods Danmark. Most Bähncke products, including ketchups and sauces, are manufactured at Orkla's production facilities in Denmark, specifically in Skælskør, maintaining its status as a local favorite.
