Weihenstephan is a name associated with two distinct premium German brands, both rooted in the historic Weihenstephan Hill in Freising, Bavaria. The Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan (Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan) is famously recognized as the world's oldest continuously operating brewery, having received its brewing license in 1040. It remains a state-owned enterprise under the Free State of Bavaria and is deeply integrated with the Technical University of Munich's brewing science programs.

In contrast, the Molkerei Weihenstephan (Weihenstephan Dairy) was originally part of the same state-owned complex before being privatized. Since 2000, the dairy brand has been owned by the Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller (Müller Group), a major international dairy company. While they share a historical origin and the "Weihenstephan" name, the brewery remains public property, while the dairy is a private commercial brand. Both entities continue to manufacture their products primarily in Freising, Germany, maintaining a strong regional identity.
