The brand was established in 1869 by John James Sainsbury and his wife Mary Ann in London, originally as a dairy shop. Over more than 150 years, it evolved from a local family business into one of the largest supermarket chains in the United Kingdom.

While the brand is quintessentially British in origin and management, this specific noodle product is manufactured and packed in China, as is common for many dry pasta and noodle varieties in the UK market. The holding company, J Sainsbury plc, is publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange.
