NCR, originally known as the National Cash Register Company, is one of America's most historic technology brands. Founded in 1884 in Dayton, Ohio, by John H. Patterson, the company revolutionized the retail industry with the invention of the first mechanical cash register. Throughout the 20th century, NCR expanded its expertise into computing, data processing, and automated teller machines (ATMs), becoming a global leader in consumer transaction technologies.
In October 2023, the original NCR Corporation underwent a significant strategic separation, splitting into two independent, publicly traded companies to better serve specific market segments. The digital commerce business, which focuses on point-of-sale (POS) systems, self-checkout kiosks, and software for the retail and hospitality sectors, became NCR Voyix Corporation. Simultaneously, the ATM and cash management business was spun off as NCR Atleos Corporation. Both companies remain headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Manufacturing for NCR products is distributed globally, with major facilities and R&D hubs located in the United States, Hungary, China, India, and Brazil to support their extensive international operations.
