Clipsal is an iconic Australian brand of electrical accessories that was established in Adelaide in 1920 by Alfred Gerard. The name 'Clipsal' was derived from the descriptive phrase 'clips all,' referring to the brand's original adjustable sheet metal fittings which could accommodate various conduit sizes. Over the decades, the company became a pioneer in the industry, producing the first all-Australian electrical switch in 1930 and leading research into thermoplastics by the 1950s.

In 2003, Clipsal was acquired by the French multinational Schneider Electric. Despite this change in ownership, the brand maintains a strong presence in Australia, with a significant amount of its research, development, and high-volume manufacturing still centered at its facility in Gepps Cross, South Australia. While many high-volume lines continue to be 'Australian Made,' some production has shifted to offshore facilities within Schneider Electric's global supply chain to maintain competitiveness in the international market.
