Golden Circle is an iconic Australian brand with its roots firmly planted in Queensland’s history. The brand began in 1947 as a grower cooperative under the name 'Queensland Tropical Fruit Products,' specifically established to provide structural support for local pineapple farmers. The main canning facility was opened in Northgate, Brisbane, which remains a key production site today.
Over the decades, the business transitioned from a farmer-owned cooperative to a public company. In late 2008, following a takeover bid, Golden Circle was acquired by the American food giant H.J. Heinz Company. This acquisition marked the end of the brand's Australian ownership, though it maintains strong local ties through its manufacturing base and its use of Australian-grown pineapples. Following the global merger of Heinz and Kraft in 2015, the brand is now part of the Kraft Heinz portfolio.
The specific product shown, the 'Australian Slices,' continues to be manufactured in Australia, primarily using pineapples sourced from Queensland growers and processed at the Northgate facility. While the ownership is international, the brand remains a staple of the Australian food landscape.
