Tailwind Nutrition was founded in 2012 by Jeff Vierling in Durango, Colorado. The brand was born out of Vierling's personal struggle with traditional sports nutrition products during endurance events, specifically the Leadville 100 MTB race, where he sought a solution that was easier on the digestive system.

The company remains independently owned and operated, maintaining its headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Durango, Colorado. This localized production allows the team to test and refine their formulas in the rugged environment of the San Juan Mountains. Tailwind has grown from a local startup into a globally recognized brand in the endurance sports community, known for its "Endurance Fuel" and "Recovery Mix" products that simplify hydration and fueling into a single, water-soluble powder.
