Winsor & Newton Gouache

Winsor & Newton is a historic art materials brand founded in 1832 by William Winsor, a chemist, and Henry Newton, an artist, in London, England. The brand is renowned for inventing many industry-standard products, including the first moist watercolours and the collapsible screw-cap metal tube used for paint today.

While originally based in the UK with major manufacturing in Wealdstone and brush-making in Lowestoft, the company underwent significant shifts in production during the 21st century. In 2010, the brand's owner, Colart, moved the primary production of many paint lines, including gouache, to a specialized facility in Le Mans, France. Some entry-level or student-grade sets are also manufactured in China.

Today, Winsor & Newton is part of the Colart Group, which is a subsidiary of the Swedish family-owned company Lindéngruppen. Despite several changes in corporate ownership—having been owned by Reckitt & Colman in the late 20th century before being acquired by ColArt in the early 1990s—it maintains its headquarters in London and continues to hold a Royal Warrant.
