Bärenmarke is one of Germany's most iconic and prestigious dairy brands, with a history dating back to 1892. Originally established in the Bavarian Alpine region, the brand became a household staple particularly known for its high-quality condensed milk and coffee creamers, characterized by the signature brown bear mascot. For much of the 20th century, the brand was a prominent part of the Nestlé portfolio, where it achieved widespread recognition and trust.

In 2003, a significant shift in ownership occurred when Hochwald Foods GmbH, a major German dairy cooperative, acquired the brand along with several production sites from Nestlé. This transition returned Bärenmarke to domestic control. Today, the brand is managed through the subsidiary Allgäuer Alpenmilch GmbH. Production remains concentrated within Germany, primarily at Hochwald's regional facilities such as the plant in Polling-Weiding. Because the parent company is a cooperative, the brand is ultimately owned by the dairy farmers who supply the milk, ensuring a vertically integrated supply chain that emphasizes traditional German agricultural standards.
