German 1, 2, or 5 Euro cent coin

The image shows the national side of a German copper-plated steel Euro cent coin (1, 2, or 5 cents), identifiable by the iconic oak twig motif. This design, created by Professor Rolf Lederbogen, carries significant historical weight as the oak leaf has been a symbol on German coins since the Munich Coin Treaty of 1837 and was previously featured on the former Deutsche Mark pfennig coins.

Unlike many other Eurozone countries that use a single mint, German Euro coins are produced across five different state-owned minting facilities: Berlin (mint mark A), Munich (D), Stuttgart (F), Karlsruhe (G), and Hamburg (J). Each coin's specific origin can be determined by the small letter found near the oak twig or the year of issue.

While the national 'obverse' side is chosen by Germany to reflect its heritage, the 'reverse' side (common across the Eurozone) and the management of the currency as a whole fall under the authority of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Commission. The Federal Ministry of Finance overseeing the production, ensuring the currency meets strict European standards for circulation.
