Aldi Peanuts

Aldi Erdnüsse (peanuts) are a staple private-label snack offered by the German discount giant Aldi. The brand traces its origins back to 1913 when Anna Albrecht opened a small grocery store in Essen, Germany. After World War II, her sons Karl and Theo took over the business, eventually forming 'Albrecht Diskont' (Aldi). In 1961, the company famously split into two independent legal entities: Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd, following a disagreement over whether to sell tobacco products.

Because Aldi operates on a private-label model, their peanuts are not produced in a single factory but are sourced through a complex global supply chain. The raw peanuts typically originate from major producing countries such as the USA, Argentina, or Egypt, and are processed and packaged by various third-party suppliers across Europe to meet Aldi's specific quality and regional distribution requirements. Ownership remains divided between the Albrecht family foundations that control Aldi Nord (Essen) and Aldi Süd (Mülheim), respectively.
