The '3' brand was originally founded in Hong Kong in March 2003 by the multinational conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa (now CK Hutchison Holdings). The Danish operations began in October 2003 following a partnership between the brand's parent company and a prominent Nordic investor.

The service utilizes a physical and digital network infrastructure located primarily within Denmark, although it shares a common core network with its sister company, 3 Sweden (Tre). This integration allows for seamless roaming and connectivity between the two countries. The company is at the forefront of mobile technology, providing 4G and 5G services to millions of subscribers nationwide.

Ownership of 3 Denmark is held through a joint venture between CK Hutchison Holdings and Investor AB. CK Hutchison, based in Hong Kong, maintains a 60% majority interest, while Investor AB, the investment arm of Sweden's Wallenberg family, holds the remaining 40%. This structure combines international telecommunications expertise with strong regional industrial experience.
