Originally founded in 1907 by Francisca Íñigo and Celestino Aznar in Vilafranca del Cid, Spain, the brand became a household name in the Spanish textile industry. Over the decades, it evolved from a family-run business into a major industrial operation with one of the largest production facilities in Europe, located in the province of Castellón.

The brand has undergone several ownership changes in recent years due to financial challenges. After being managed by the founding family for generations, it was acquired by the logistics group ThinkTextil in 2021 and subsequently by the company For Men in 2024. Despite these efforts to revitalize the brand, the historic Spanish manufacturing facility faced significant hurdles, leading to restructuring and intermittent production. While historically manufactured in Spain, some product lines have been produced or distributed through partnerships in other European regions. Marie Claire legwear continues to be recognized for its range of sheer, opaque, and support hosiery aimed at style-conscious consumers.
