Swan is a historic British brand with a legacy dating back to the late 19th century. Originally founded as Bulpitt & Sons Ltd in Birmingham, the brand became famous in the 1920s and 1930s for pioneering the first submersible electric heating element, which revolutionized the design of the modern electric kettle. Over the decades, Swan established itself as a staple of the British kitchen, known for products ranging from tea sets to advanced electrical appliances.
Following a period of shifting ownership—including acquisitions by the French company Moulinex in 1988 and the retail group Littlewoods in 2000—the brand was eventually bought by Swan Products Ltd in 2017. In July 2023, the brand reached a new milestone when it was acquired by the family-owned Sutton Venture Group (SVG). It is now managed under SVG's trading division, RKW, which is headquartered in Staffordshire, UK.
While the brand maintains its British heritage through design and management in Stoke-on-Trent, manufacturing today occurs in multiple countries. Most production facilities are located in the Far East, particularly in China and Vietnam, to leverage global supply chains while maintaining the accessible price points for which the brand is known.
