Morphy Richards home appliances

Founded in 1936 in St Mary Cray, Kent, Morphy Richards began as a partnership between Donal Morphy and Charles Richards. The brand quickly became a household staple in the United Kingdom, known for pioneering electrical appliances like heat-controlled irons and automatic toasters. While originally manufactured in the UK, production transitioned to East Asia, particularly China, starting in the 1990s as the company sought to remain competitive in the global market.

Historically, the brand has seen several shifts in ownership, moving from the founders to EMI and later becoming part of British Domestic Appliances (BDA) alongside Hotpoint. In 1985, it was acquired by the Irish group Glen Dimplex. However, in a major strategic shift completed around 2023, the global rights to the Morphy Richards brand were sold to the Chinese manufacturing giant Guangdong Xinbao Electrical Appliance Holdings (also known as Xinbao or Donlim). Under this current structure, Glen Dimplex retains limited distribution rights in specific regions like Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, while the brand's global future is steered from China.
