AMC Theatres, formally known as AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc., is the world’s largest movie exhibition company. Founded in 1920 by the Dubinsky brothers (later the Durwood family) in Kansas City, Missouri, the company is credited with pioneering the modern multiplex cinema.

Over the decades, AMC’s ownership has undergone significant shifts. It was famously acquired by the Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group in 2012. However, following the 'meme stock' phenomenon of 2021, Wanda progressively divested its stake, and AMC transitioned into a widely-held public company. As of 2026, the company lacks a single majority owner, with its shares held by a diverse group of retail investors and institutional firms.

Beyond screening films, AMC has diversified into consumer packaged goods, launching retail brands such as 'AMC Perfectly Popcorn' and 'AMC Cinema Sweets.' These products are manufactured through partnerships with various domestic and international suppliers to service both their 900+ global theater locations and major third-party retailers like Walmart.
