Nidar Mokkabønner is one of Norway's most iconic and longest-standing chocolate products. These bean-shaped dark chocolates flavored with coffee were first introduced by the Bergene chocolate factory in Oslo in 1917, while Nidar launched its own version in 1924. Following the merger of Nidar and Bergene in 1980, the classic packaging—featuring an African motif—was carried over from the Bergene version and remains largely unchanged today.

The production occurs at the historic Nidar factory located in Trondheim, Norway, where the brand has maintained its presence for over a century. Nidar is now a subsidiary of Orkla ASA, a massive Norwegian industrial investment company. Orkla consolidated several Norwegian confectionery leaders, including Nidar, KiMs, and Sætre, into its snacks division, ensuring that Mokkabønner remains a staple of Norwegian cultural heritage under modern corporate stewardship.
