The water is drawn from natural underground aquifers located in the Zagorochoria area, which is part of a protected Natura 2000 environment. It is bottled directly at the source to maintain its natural mineral composition and purity without artificial processing.

The brand was launched in 1988 by the Chitos family through their company, CHITOS S.A. (also known as CHITOS ABEE). The company itself dates back to 1955, originally founded by Ioannis Chitos as a beverage manufacturer. Over the decades, the brand has grown into a leader in the Greek domestic market and has expanded its international footprint. In recent years, the company has integrated with the Green Beverages Group, though CHITOS S.A. remains the primary entity and ultimate owner, based on current 2026 data. The brand is also recognized for its 'Go Green' initiative, being the first Greek water brand to introduce bottles made with 30% recycled plastic (rPET).
