Listerine Total Care soft drink

Listerine is a historic brand of antiseptic mouthwash that was developed in 1879 by Dr. Joseph Lawrence and Jordan Wheat Lambert in St. Louis, Missouri. The brand was famously named in honor of Dr. Joseph Lister, an English surgeon who pioneered antiseptic surgical techniques. Originally marketed as a surgical antiseptic and even a floor cleaner, it became a mass-market success in the 1920s after being rebranded as a solution for 'halitosis' (bad breath).

Manufacturing takes place in multiple locations worldwide to serve different regional markets. While a significant portion is produced in the United States, European supplies are often manufactured in Italy. The brand has transitioned through several major corporate owners over the decades, including Warner-Lambert and Pfizer. In 2006, Johnson & Johnson acquired the brand, but as of May 2023, it is under the ownership of Kenvue, a dedicated consumer health company that was spun off from Johnson & Johnson.
