Joy is a historic American brand of dishwashing liquid, widely recognized for being the first liquid detergent of its kind launched in the United States in 1949. Originally developed and marketed by the consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G), the brand became a household staple through its innovative plastic packaging and long-term sponsorship of television 'soap operas.' It is famously associated with its refreshing lemon scent, a trend it pioneered in the cleaning industry.
In 2019, Procter & Gamble underwent a strategic portfolio optimization and sold the rights for the Joy brand in the Americas (including the U.S., Canada, and parts of Latin America) to JoySuds, LLC. However, P&G continues to own and distribute the Joy brand in other international markets, most notably in Japan and Southeast Asia. Consequently, manufacturing occurs in various locations depending on the region of sale, with North American production managed through JoySuds' supply chain partners and international production handled by P&G's global facilities.
