The brand was launched in 2012 by Ultima Foods, a company that was originally a joint venture between the Canadian dairy cooperatives Agropur and Agrifoods International. It was created to offer a homegrown alternative in the Canadian dairy market and quickly established itself through a massive nationwide launch.

Today, the brand is owned by Lactalis Canada, a subsidiary of the global dairy leader Lactalis Group, based in France. Lactalis acquired the iögo and iögo nanö brands along with Ultima Foods' operations in 2021. Despite its international ownership, iögo remains a locally focused brand; the products are manufactured in Canada, primarily at facilities in Granby, Quebec, using 100% Canadian milk from local dairy farmers.
