Gratien & Meyer Saumur Brut

Gratien & Meyer is a prestigious sparkling wine producer based in Saumur, within France's Loire Valley. The house was established in 1864 by Alfred Gratien, who also founded the renowned Champagne Gratien house in Épernay the same year. The brand took its current name after Alfred Gratien partnered with Jean-Albert Meyer, an expert winemaker from Alsace, whose family managed and grew the business for over a century following Gratien's death in 1885.

The wine is produced using traditional methods (méthode traditionnelle) in the ancient tuffeau limestone tunnels of the Saumur hillside, which provide the ideal consistent temperature for aging. While the brand remained family-owned for many generations, it was acquired in 2000 by the German sparkling wine giant Henkell & Co. Following the 2018 merger between Henkell and the Spanish cava producer Freixenet, the brand is now part of the Henkell Freixenet group, the world's leading sparkling wine company.
